service-hepatitis Cystitis is the inflammation of the bladder, usually caused by a urinary tract infection (UTI). It can affect anyone of any age, but is more likely to occur in women. It can be treated with a 3-day course of antibiotics. There are over-the-counter medicines you can use for cystitis, such as potassium citrate which can help manage the symptoms. However, the most common first-line treatment for cystitis is Nitrofurantoin. Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic commonly used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) such as cystitis and kidney infections. It’s useful for UTIs because the drug is filtered into the urine and can work at the site of infection in the urinary tract. It’s effective against most bacteria that can cause UTIs and works by killing the bacteria causing the infection. If you have tried OTC cystitis treatment and it hasn't worked, our pharmacist can offer enhanced treatment not commonly found in OTC medications. This will require a brief consultation with the pharmacist who will determine if you are suitable.
